Yesterday the veteran actor Amitabh Bachchan launched the Mission Paani Initiative started by News 18. The state government of Maharashtra extended support to the campaign.
Water scarcity is a national calamity today. We need to use water economically and not waste it. Children are the future of tomorrow and we need to imbibe the culture of using water economically in them. Otherwise there would be no water for them in the future.
A recent report by Niti Aayog says 40% of India’s population will have no access to drinking water by 2030.
We should start Rain Water harvesting at the ground level. Manipur has become the first state to start Rain water harvesting.
Recently all of us witnessed how many hotels in Chennai had to be closed due to water scarcity. Chennai received drinking water in special train from other state. 3 rivers, 5 wetlands, 6 forests and 4 waterbodies have dried in Chennai despite having better water resources and rains than any other metro cities.
Let us take a look at some statistics:
– 70% of India’s water supply is contaminated.
– 75% of households in India do not have drinking water on their premises.
– 84% rural homes in India do not have access to piped water.
We can take actions to conserve water by using less water while bathing, in toilet while flushing and in wash basins.
